Watercolor on Masa Paper: Batik-Inspired Textures with Cindy Sarkady

  • SVA Gallery 534 South Pier Drive Sheboygan, WI, 53081 United States (map)

Discover the magic of painting with watercolor on Masa paper, a unique process that produces stunning, batik-like textures and captivating effects. In this class, you’ll learn how to crinkle, soak, and prepare Masa paper to enhance its natural fibers, allowing watercolor to settle into folds and creases in unpredictable and beautiful ways. The result is soft, diffused washes and dramatic shading that bring depth and movement to your artwork.

Ideal for artists of all levels, this workshop encourages experimentation and expression through texture and color. Come ready to explore a technique that’s both meditative and visually compelling. Since Masa paper takes a while to dry, you’re encouraged to bring a towel and a hair dryer. You’re welcome to bring your own reference images, paints, and brushes; however, all supplies are included in the class fee.
