Discover the beauty and freedom of watercolor on stretched canvas in this fun and inspiring workshop. Participants will create a luminous painting that celebrates the power of white space, allowing the canvas itself to become an important part of the composition. This approach creates fresh, light-filled artwork while exploring watercolor techniques that differ from traditional paper painting.
Students will learn how watercolor behaves on canvas, techniques for preserving whites, creating soft blends, layering color, and adding expressive details. The project is designed for all skill levels, from beginners to experienced painters looking to try something new. As a special finishing touch, a demonstration will show how to seal and protect the completed painting using a soft wax finish, enhancing the artwork while preserving its delicate watercolor appearance.
Materials: Participants should bring their own watercolor paints, brushes, a water cup, and a sack lunch with a drink. The artist will provide one stretched canvas for each participant. SVA will provide hair dryers and paper towels.
Come ready to experiment, learn, and create a unique watercolor painting with lasting beauty.
