Michael Carson

Miles North Pottery | Sheboygan, WI

With 27 years in the ceramic arts, Mike Carson brings a rare combination of studio practice, industrial experience, and materials science to his work as a ceramic artist. His career spans Pigeon Forge Pottery, MacKenzie-Childs Ltd., Kohler Co., and his current role as Director of New Product Development at American Art Clay Company (AMACO) — a trajectory that reflects both the breadth and depth of his engagement with clay as a medium.

Mike holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics from the University of Delaware and has taught at 171 Cedar Arts Center in Corning, NY. His passion for three-dimensional form extends beyond ceramics into wood turning and other handmade object traditions.

Under his personal studio brand, Miles North Pottery, Mike produces functional ware rooted in a simple but compelling philosophy: the elevation of everyday tasks through considered objects. He thinks deeply about the user's relationship with his work — how a handle's negative space fills a cupboard shelf, how plates and bowls nest and stack — bringing a designer's intentionality to forms that live and work in ordinary life.
