SVA Gallery Submission Guidelines

SVA Gallery Submission Guidelines

The gallery and exhibition team reserve the right to accept or decline submissions based on gallery standards and exhibition requirements. Artwork may be displayed in the manner and location best suited to the exhibition. Artists are responsible for reviewing and following all submission guidelines.

Questions regarding submissions may be directed to: president.sva@gmail.com

Hanging and Display

All artwork must be clean, finished, and ready for display. Two-dimensional pieces must have appropriate hanging wire, positioned at least three inches below the top of the artwork and not visible from the front. Sawtooth hangers are not permitted. Artwork that does not meet hanging requirements may be declined.

Frames and glass must be clean and display-ready. Wrapped canvases less than one inch deep must be framed, and all exposed canvas edges must be finished. Photographs and works on paper must be framed.

Photographs and printed artwork must be produced on archival or quality photo-grade paper, or through a professional printing service, with accurate color and detail reproduction. Standard copy paper is not acceptable.

Each artwork must be identified on the back with the artist's name, title, medium, and price. Artwork requiring a pedestal or alternative display method must be discussed with gallery staff in advance.

Artwork Submissions

All submitted artwork must be original and must not have been exhibited at the SVA Gallery within the previous year. Artwork containing copyrighted content without appropriate authorization will not be accepted.

Artwork created entirely using artificial intelligence is not accepted. Any use of AI during the creative process must be disclosed in the artwork label submission, and AI-assisted artwork must be substantially modified from the original AI-generated image.

All subject matter must be appropriate for public exhibition and is subject to review by the gallery and board. Artists must complete the required Intent to Show and Artwork Label information by the designated deadline. Incomplete or late submissions may not be accepted.

Artwork During Exhibitions

Artwork should remain on display for the duration of the exhibition. Pieces removed early may not be eligible for reinstallation at the gallery's discretion. If an artwork sells during an exhibition, the artist may replace it with another eligible piece. If the space is not filled, the gallery may display another artist's work in its place.

Artwork Drop-Off and Pick-Up

Artists are responsible for delivering and retrieving their artwork on the designated dates. Artwork not delivered on time may be declined unless prior arrangements have been made.

Artwork not picked up by the designated deadline will be placed in gallery storage. Although reasonable care will betaken, SVA is not responsible for loss or damage occurring during storage.

Exhibitor's Agreement

Artists offer artwork on consignment to Sheboygan Visual Artists (SVA), which retains a 20% commission on all sales. SVA collects and remits applicable sales tax to the state and covers credit card processing fees from its commission. Artists should consider the 20% commission when establishing artwork prices.

Packing, transportation, handling expenses, and risk of loss or damage during delivery of artwork to and from SVA are the responsibility of the artist. For online sales, the artist is responsible for coordinating delivery with the customer, including packing, transportation, handling expenses, and associated risks.

Artists may choose to insure their artwork. SVA galleries are locked when not in use and protected by an intrusion alarm and sprinkler system.

Artists retain all reproduction rights to their artwork and authorize SVA to use images of submitted artwork for publicity, promotion, and virtual exhibitions.

Artists acknowledge that they are the creators and copyright holders of their submitted artwork. Original artwork includes work created from an original design, personal photograph, or substantially transformed reference material. SVA is not responsible for obtaining model releases.

Customers may take purchased artwork immediately upon sale.

This agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin.

Submission Guidelines
